This has the ambience of the background noises in the cafe, primarily muffled conversations of the people around me, shuffling of people getting to and from places, workers shuffling in the work area. Here, I amplified different aspects of the cafe background noises in hopes of showing and immersing the individual in the business of the area. One can hear someone's phone chimes or the occasional glassware clinking. All can contribute to the overall experience of an individual within these spaces.

This choice of music is highly variable due to multiple factors. In multiple Starbucks cafes I've visited the music has ranged from the shown above jazz to pop music to R&B/Hip-Hop to soft rock. This can really depend on what time of day you show up to the coffee shop at and also who is working the shifts. Employees can have access to the music played in the cafe. But, in general there is a set preferred playlist for Starbucks to play.

{ The ideal decibel level of sound for studying is around 70 decibels. This sound level is equal to the background cafe chattering and music. }
Sound plays a great role in one's productivity. Not too noisy or too quiet. As stated before, it all depends on individual experience and personal preference. That is why the multitudes of data compiled from interviews I held shows this. Here I have practiced both concepts of epistemology & method and transduction & immersion.

Epistemology & Method: What variables determine someone's level of productivity? This varies person to person, and this is seen with different choices of music or noises to surround oneself with when performing work/study activities. Cafes are not always a first pick place for one to study, I am looking into only those who see these settings as beneficial to them instead of hindering.

Transduction & Immersion: Hearing the sound of people shuffling, people conversating, and the baristas working on making drinks make up the whole atmosphere of the place people choose over and over for focus. The sound sculpture above does the job of showing the noises present within this space and try to take little pieces of the soundscape and show how these come together as one to produce the focus-driving coffee shops.
